    Accessing the Root System Folder

Post by Admin on Thu May 05, 2011 1:38 am

So, I found out that if you download File Station from the market, which is one of the few apps on the market that even lists itself as compatible with the G-Slate, you can actually access the system folder and modify it's contents the same way you could if your device was rooted. For instance, I just replaced my boot screen animation with CM7's to see if it would work, and winner winner chicken dinner.

Here's the download link in the Market: CLICK

I can't replicate this. If we could really change or even overwrite arbitrary root-owned files under /system then a device root would be pretty straightforward.

Yeah sorry I got overexcited and posted this before it fully rebooted. It didn't work. Somehow it actually bricked the device...had to reset from scratch. I think it might be a flaw with File Station app.

Honeycomb File Manager does the same thing. No good.
